10 of 10 people found the following review helpful worth the money, August 31, 2008 By This review is from: JVC XVN670B 1080p Upconverting Digital Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics) i own this player and compared it with a samsung blu ray player, both connected via a HDMI cable to a samsung HDTV and to be honest with the exception of minute visual details this player and its upscaling ability is worth it. the blu ray costs over 300 dollars and this player made me realize blu ray still has along way to go to be worth the money, but until then buy this play, invest in a HDMI cable and enjoy crisper scenes and details and the new life this player brings to your "old" dvds.
12 of 13 people found the following review helpful very good product, June 9, 2008 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: JVC XVN670B 1080p Upconverting Digital Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics) This product is excellent for the price. The picture is great and the sound is very good, plays pretty much any video format.Very good colors and clear image. Very satisfied with it, considering the fact that it has hdmi output, 1080p upconversion, digital optical and coaxial outputs. Here is the 3 things I do not like but for the price again no big deal: The loading tray is very thin and looks like it will break easy, but as of now is ok. The display is extremely tiny so you almost do not see it from 6 feet distance, kind of annoying since you do not know how much from the movie you have seen. The player is black, but the remote silver color. They do not match. As far as performance no complains at all, but happy.
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Until Blu-Ray players are cheaper..., February 20, 2009 By My name is Pen (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: JVC XVN670B 1080p Upconverting Digital Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics) I recently got an HDTV and wanted to get a DVD player with 'upscaling capability.' This, for those who may not know, is a process that automatically converts the pixel output [picture quality] of the DVD you're watching to the pixel count of the TV that it's connected to. This means that playing a 'regular' DVD, utilizing this player and your HDTV, will approximate a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc's picture quality [the ubiquitous, but seldom grasped 1080p]. It will not play those formats [HD/Blu-Ray] but the difference in clarity is negligible. You will need to buy an HDMI cable, as only a standard one is included. Slightly unusual in this player is the ability to play, not just CDs and CD-RWs, but DivX files as well. This is a format common to 'ripped' movies found on the internet, so if that's your thing it's a pretty cool feature. It's also quiet, slim, and loads reasonably quick. All in all, if you don't want to drop three to six-hundred on a Blu-Ray but do want an upjump in quality, you... Read more
